The technological education courses in Grades 9 and 10 are hands-on, project-based courses. They focus on the exploration of industry-specific concepts and topics, foundational technological skills and applications, and career paths.

The technological education curriculum in Grades 9–12 encompasses ten subject areas, referred to as broad-based technology subjects. They are:

  • Communications Technology
  • Computer Technology
  • Construction Technology
  • Green Industries
  • Hairstyling and Aesthetics
  • Health Care
  • Hospitality and Tourism
  • Manufacturing Technology
  • Technological Design
  • Transportation Technology

The Grade 9 and 10 courses titled Technology and the Skilled Trades (TAS1O and TAS2O) are intended to provide students with exposure to a variety of industries. This delivery model enables students to work on projects that encompass several different technological areas, using a range of equipment and resources suited to the various areas.

Schools may choose to offer courses in Grade 9 or 10 that are focused on a single broad-based technology area, known as focus courses. These courses can be made available in both Grade 9 and 10 and across all 10 broad-based technology areas.

To support educators in planning for learning in the context of the various broad-based technology areas using either delivery model, the table below provides a sampling of industry-specific concepts, skills, and careers. The examples provided are not a complete list, nor are they intended to be mandatory learning for students.
